Jennie O Queen of Protein. A set a five posters for the campaign of Queen of Protein for Jennie-O Turkey. Kira Olson’s design responsibilities: Layout, typography, color correct the photos, change item colors to meet the brand guidelines, remove unwanted material, and re-size them to fit the different aspect ratios for the social posts including Instagram and Pinterest.

For this BBDO Minneapolis project, I created PDF files and interactive WordPress websites of brands at Hormel. These brand books inform vendors on topics such as the story behind the brand, brand audience, brand guidelines, and the current brand campaign. The Hormel companies I worked on include Skippy, Jennie O, Spam, Mary Kitchen Hash, Dinty Moore Stew, Hormel Chili, Hormel Compleats, and Black Label Bacon.

Fidget Pets for Kids: Kira designed these special toys with features designed to help kids process anxiety or other difficulties. The overall design of the fidget toy is to be a tactile toy that can be fidgeted with without causing major distraction to others. The design of the toy is meant to redirect destructive habits such as hair pulling, pinching, etc.
The silicone bristle ears are designed for finger manipulation allowing the child to rub and play with ears. The nose is designed as a soft and quiet silicone button allowing the child to press the pet’s nose. The tongue is squishy and is designed to be pinched and squeezed with instant tactile feedback. The indent on the back the head is designed for the child to rub it’s thumb back-and-forth on. Detail is designed for both pulling with a snapping back release and as a way carry the fidget pet.
Freelance Product Design: Sustainable Beauty Product Packaging
Cocktail Hour is a line of sustainable packaged beauty products. The main packaging is a beeswax wrap—an eco-friendly substitute for plastic wrap. The packaging uses food safe materials and a reusable design that makes this wrap easy to clean. Using the beeswax wrap as an alternative to single-use packaging material will appeal to the target customer because the wraps allow for continuous use beyond it’s original purpose. For my packaging design, I combined the two methods. Keeping branding on packaging to a minimum will encourage consumers to re-purpose the packaging after using the beauty products.
